It's a fine line, really, especially when you're looking at the 1970s.
This finery brought to you by an entire costume and wardrobe department: Bhanu Athaiya (who according to imdb is the first Indian to win an Oscar - for costume design in Gandhi - and was also involved in Lagaan and Swades, among many others) , Shankar Jadhav, Vasant Mahajan, and Mani Rabadi.
Also, take a close look at these sunglasses.
Neat, huh? Prem Chopra and the Big B in 1976? Or Aishwarya and Baby B in 2007? Who can tell?!?

lol! I'm loving the modern day tie-in with Aish and Baby B!
As for whether or not that was bad fashion, I'll have to ask my dad but I have a feeling that tuxedo ensemble was big pimpin back in the day!
actually, I don't mind the costumes NEARLY as much as I mind the shaggy beard - it hides too much of his face! I like his goatee much better.
imdb? such an umreliable source. this is a very bad blog for people who want to crap about the indian film industry.
1970s in hollywood gets more worse than this.
aish and abhi actaully look really really cute. i don't know what you're talking about.
Lisa, I didn't say anything about Aishwarya and Abhishek other than that their sunglasses remind me of the ones in the movie. I like the picture, actually.
As for Hollywood, sure, people around the world wore clothes in the 70s that we now think of as unattractive. I never said they didn't.
oh yikes, is that Ash in the last pic? She looks so wrinkly!!!
hmm yeah the beard doesnt suit bachchan sr, goes well with jr though
I'm ok with the costumes because I think they were in-keeping with fashion back in the day. What makes me giggle are the subtitles ...
Refering to picture five, I wondered what had happened to Grandma's old table cloth.
nice find of shades!!!
lol dat pic of ash looks awfulll
I like Amitabh Bachan and Rekha better than Abishek and Aish...Rekha is 10 times hotter than Aish and Abishek looks like a fuckin douchebag- he is so geeky ew
The writer is totally right, and there is no skepticism.
