Kiss Me Not

By now, you probably all know that Aishwarya Rai and Hrithik Roshan have been slapped with charges of obscenity for their "kiss" in Dhoom 2. Shailendra Dwivedi, a lawyer in Indore, said the scene "lowered the dignity of Indian women and gave an obscene message to youth." [link]

Now, we at Bollywood Fugly want to know--was it all worth it? Was the darn kiss hot or not?

Watch...

and decide...

How hot was the Ash-Hrithik kiss in Dhoom 2?

Ditto.

Though, to be fair, if some suitable Indian boy wants to lay that on me, I'm all for it.

How 'bout, "Hrithik is hot; Ash is not."

Seriously, she is NOT kissing back; she need to work those pouty lips.

Works for me! Considering that most of the actual kisses we see in Bollywood movies have all the heat of a popsicle, that was pretty good! But I agree - Hrithik was doing all the work. :)

Phooey.
Ants,moles,hills etcetera.

Uh, so, that kinda looked like the worst kiss ever.

Because if Hrithik was in front of me, I would... well, what I would do probably doesn't belong in a public forum, but you can bet your bottom dollar we'd both be wearing scarves the next day.

He barely touched her! No wonder she looked so upset.

TB, as usual, you nailed it.

And thank you hamesha for the scarf code-word. What does it mean that I brought back four scarves from India, I wonder?

Look, considering Emraan "Breath Mint Endorsement" Hashmi kisses anything that moves, this kiss actually wasn't bad. AR did none of the work though and HR, well at least he got to smack that.

What gets my goat is that we have these people who are offended by a kiss but are ok with watching movies with rampant soft porn overtones like Jism and Murder. While this movie was a potential fug-fest *cough*Uday Chopra*cough* it still was better than some of the insipid crap that Bollywood churned out this year.

Paresh, the hypocrisy of some folks is astounding.

I think people are making such a fuss this time because it's Ash "Ice Princess" Rai. If this kiss involved any of her peers, no one would care.

This is a repeat from a forum post I made a couple days ago:

I'm still slightly baffled by the idea that a chick in booty shorts and a white tank top writhing about in a rain storm is perfectly innocent, but a kiss is still shocking and obscene.

I mean, I just watched the first Dhoom, and it seems to be plenty saucy, including the "Let's Dirty Dance" song at the beginning. Is this just a case of the people who file lawsuits exploiting an outrage that no longer exists in the Indian mainstream? Or is kissing still really that much more intimate and taboo on screen than a girl in tiny bikini coming out of the ocean in slow motion (for what seems like ten minutes) while Uday freaks out in the most ridiculous way possible?

Seems to me like a lawyer just wants to get some publicity.

Not-so-hot. This criminal complaint is an insult to the concept of obscenity.

t-HYPE said...

I agree Piper!
If people throw around a word--obscenity, in this instance--it loses it's meaning.

On a lighter note, a better description of obscenity would be Ashmit Patel taking a steamy shower in the movie Murder. Hotttt damn! I had to pray after seeing that....

it is ridiculous to me that this paradox still exists..why should a woman be criticized for kissing a so-called hunk, yet its perfectly acceptable that she wears booty shorts and a white top IN THE RAIN? its such a mysogynistic culture..

I think half of the point is that she didn't kiss him. She's a dead fish. So there's nothing hot about it... Hrithik was probably wondering if she fell asleep during shooting...

That was soo fake...it was obvious Aish felt uncomfortable with the kissing scene. Hrithik looks like an awesome kisser, whereas Aish just let her lips linger and didn't kiss him back at all! Whatever happened to her vow to never kiss onscreen? An onscreen kiss is so much more tolerable than the disgusting, almost explicit songs they show in movies now. What a poor attempt to be westernized!
